The Gordon Center for Black Culture and Arts

Membership/Donor Application Form

Thank you for your interest in The Gordon Center for Black Culture and Arts. We have been busy in our inaugural year establishing a presence that not only continues the legacy of Drs. Edmund and Susan Gordon but promotes local arts activities as well. We

strongly feel that this kind of cultural education and support of Black artists will enrich and keep our community strong.

We are excited about the progress we have made! To date we have:

• Become a component fund of the Rockland Community Foundation (RCF). This

relationship automatically makes The Gordon Center a charitable fund under the

RCF umbrella. Donations to us are tax deductible.

• Sponsored the annual Martin Luther King Center Unity Celebration. We worked with young curators to create a mini museum that showcased Charles White as well as other new up and coming artists from the Lower Hudson Valley.

• Co-sponsored the original play: “Antigone on Robben Island: Mandela takes the

Stage” with Shades Repertory Theater. This event drew 150 people.

• Continued to work with The CEJJES Institute and Society of The Arts on upcoming programs and activities.

• Financially assisted author Dr. Jeffery Perry towards the publication of his second volume on the life and works of Hubert Harrison, considered one of the greatest Black working class writers and activists of the 20th century, who, like many giants of the African Diaspora, fell into obscurity.

Attached is an application that offers several tiers of membership. Your membership and financial support are critical components in building our organization. As you are aware, the more members who join, the more opportunities we will have to advance Black culture and the arts in our community. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Sincerely,

The Gordon Center
